Seed Rate and Sowing Time for Garlic Cultivation
Proper sowing time and seed rate play a crucial role in increasing garlic crop yield.
Best Sowing Time for Garlic
The ideal time for garlic sowing is from the last week of September to the end of November. Sowing during this period ensures better plant growth and higher yield.
Fertilizer Management
Fertilizer requirement depends on soil fertility. Generally, 20–25 tons of farmyard manure per hectare should be applied.
- Nitrogen – 100 kg/ha
- Phosphorus – 50 kg/ha
- Potash – 50 kg/ha
This can be supplied using about 109 kg DAP, 175 kg urea and 84 kg muriate of potash.
Application Method
- Apply FYM, DAP and potash during final land preparation.
- Apply half dose of urea during field preparation.
- Apply remaining urea 30–40 days after sowing.
Micronutrients
Apply zinc sulfate @ 25 kg per hectare once every three years for better crop growth.
Drip Irrigation
Drip irrigation and fertigation improve garlic productivity. Water soluble fertilizers can be applied through drip irrigation.
